A DEBUT TO REMEMBER AND A BRIGHT PATH FORWARD
Author: John AliuAsekho Tiwani has already provided glimpses of what is to come. His impressive debut performance in Mamelodi Sundowns’ emphatic 4-0 victory over Mbabane Swallows in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round highlights his potential and the promise he holds for the future. He continued to impress with another standout performance in the commanding 2-0 victory over SuperSport United in the Tshwane derby, playing the full 90 minutes as Bafana Ba Style began their defense of the Betway Premiership title on a victorious note.

The left-back, who turned 19 this October, believes his strong early performances for the Club are merely a preview of what lies ahead. “It was an honor to make my debut on such a prestigious stage as the CAF Champions League. I am excited about how the game went, but I see this as just the start. I am eager to build on this performance and continue growing both as a player and as part of this team.”
The young defender, who was promoted from Sekhukhune’s reserves in August 2022, made an impressive impact with 16 league and cup appearances and scored two goals during the 2023-24 season. One of his standout moments was a long-range strike against Cape Town Spurs, which was nominated for the Goal of the Season at the PSL awards and also voted PSL Goal of the Month for April.

Despite consistently grabbing the headlines with his brilliant performances last season, Tiwani remains humble and focused on his growth with Masandawana. “There is much more to my game that I am excited to develop here. My time with my previous team was a great learning experience, but I know there is room for growth. At Chloorkop, I am looking forward to enhancing my skills, learning from more experienced teammates and contributing to the team’s success.”

Asekho was also quick to mention some of the Sundowns players he has always looked forward to playing alongside: “Of course, I have always looked up to many of them as mentors and I am glad to be teammates with players such as Grant Kekana and Themba Zwane.”

The youngster, who is also the National U20 Captain of South Africa, expressed that he is fully aware of the competition for places in the Mamelodi Sundowns squad and highlighted his determination to fight for his spot.

“If I were afraid of competition, I would have stayed where I was. I am committed to giving my best in every training session and match so that I can earn my place and contribute to the team’s success. I thrive on challenges and believe that the competitive environment at Sundowns will help me grow as a player.”
