CAPTAIN THEMBA ZWANE CELEBRATING THE 7TH STRAIGHT LEAGUE TITLE AND SURPASSING THE 400 GAME MARK

Despite being the Club’s longest-serving player, Captain Themba ‘Mshishi’ Zwane demonstrably remains hungry and a vital cog in Coach Rulani Mokwena’s team. His experience, leadership and playmaking skills, coupled with an impressive 17 titles at Chloorkop, underscore his enduring value and contribution to the team’s success.

The Mamelodi Sundowns captain was instrumental once again as Bafana Ba Style secured a historic seventh consecutive PSL title. This unprecedented feat excites the midfield maestro, who is now in his 14th season at the club.

Commenting about the feat, Themba Zwane said “It’s history in the making, because what we have achieved as a team will be talked about for years to come. We are a very good unit and credit goes to the technical team for keeping us focused and motivated throughout the season. They instilled a winning mentality in us, and that’s what makes champions.”

The 2023/24 season saw Mshishi lift two trophies as a captain, the African Football League and the DStv Premiership. He also surpassed the 400-game mark for appearances with the Brazilians which was achieved when Mamelodi Sundowns won against Yanga in April at Loftus Stadium for the CAF Champions League.

On what keeps him going and hungry for more, the Tembisa-born midfielder said, “It is so good to keep the momentum going. I am happy to help my team win trophies and be a good example to the young ones. That is why I am still pushing myself to the limit. There is nothing better than contributing to the team’s success and seeing the joy on the faces of the younger players motivates me to keep performing at my best.”

At the prime age of 34 years old, Zwane remains a crucial player for Bafana Bafana. At the last African Cup of Nations, he scored twice as South Africa finished in third place. The Sundowns captain recently scored a spectacular goal against Nigeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

“I am always happy to contribute to the success of the National Team. We find ourselves in a very competitive group and we will need to maintain our focus and determination in every match. Our goal is to qualify for the World Cup, and every game is crucial towards achieving that objective,” Zwane concluded.
