Coach Jerry:
Reflecting on Triumphs, Favourite Moments, and Festive Vibes

As the festive spirit fills the air and we bask in the glow of holiday lights, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies take a moment to reflect on a fantastic 2023. To capture the joy and triumphs of the year, our Digital Team sat down with Coach Jerry Tshabalala. Together, they talked about the highs, special moments, and the festive feelings that come with December. What is your biggest highlight of the year 2023?
"It has to be winning the treble, but besides that, one game really stood out—the semi-final against Green Buffaloes FC in the Women's CAF Champions League. We were 1-0 down in less than 10 minutes, but the girls came back and won 3-1. That game showed the determination of the team, and it's one of the biggest highlights of the season for me."
What is your favourite moment of this season?
"Winning the Women's CAF Champions League stands out. Despite the challenges, it's a favourite moment. The third goal scored by Refilwe Tholakele was magical—a team goal with Melinda Kgadiete's brilliant play. It was a great, great moment."
How did you feel when Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were named club of the year in the CAF awards?
"Nothing beats the feeling of being club of the year twice in a row. It shows our collective effort and hard work as a team. It's exciting to defend the title as the leader of the ship, and we're very proud of it."
What type of music brings the festive feeling for you, and what is your favorite meal?
"As December brings the festive mood, I can't wait to listen to my favourite song, 'Puteng' by SAP. It keeps me going when things are down. In my car, you'll often find me listening to Gospel music, especially Amadodana Ase Wesile—they have my favourite songs. Despite the home cooked seven colours, my go-to festive meal is two slices of brown bread, margarine, peanut butter, and a glass of milk. That's me for you this December (laughs)."
