Passion, Professionalism and Progress
© Backpage PixAuthor: John AliuFawaaz Basadien has quickly settled into life at Mamelodi Sundowns, relishing the excitement and opportunities that come with representing one of Africa’s most prestigious Clubs.
Since arriving from Stellenbosch, he has also embraced the team’s high standards and competitive spirit, an environment that continues to push him to grow and excel both on and off the pitch.

“Of course, adapting to a new setup and earning your place in a team of such quality takes time. However, I understand and respect that I must fight for my place, as we have some exceptional defenders. That motivates me to work harder every day. I am also fully aware of the responsibility that comes with the badge.”

When it comes to his role in the squad, Fawaaz is clear on where he can contribute as the season progresses.

“I feel confident that my skills and experience can add value to what Sundowns want to achieve on the pitch. I want to bring consistency, energy and leadership every time I step onto the field and help the team maintain our high standards.”

Although a defender, Basadien grew up drawing inspiration from one of the greatest strikers of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo.

At Sundowns, I am fortunate to train alongside world-class teammates whose dedication, intelligence and teamwork push me to raise my standards both on and off the pitch.”

Before joining Masandawana, he played for several clubs, including Milano United, Cape Town City, Ubuntu Cape Town, Steenberg United, Moroka Swallows and Stellenbosch. Reflecting on which Sundowns player he found toughest to play against, he said.

“Khuliso Mudau was always a challenge. His pace, positioning and recovery made it difficult to get the better of him. Watching him play pushed me to improve my own game and now, as teammates, I am excited to learn from his experience and integrate that into my own performances.”

Ahead of the festive season, the defender shares his message with the Yellow Nation supporters:
“This time of year is special for everyone, a chance to rest, recharge and spend quality moments with family and loved ones. We have a big second half of the season waiting and we are going to count on your support to get us over the line. Your energy, passion and belief in the team inspire us every day on the pitch.”
