“The most challenging part of recovery has been staying patient. There were days when progress felt slow and a lot of uncertainty about whether I would get back to my previous level. Mentally, it was tough, but I stayed focused by setting small, achievable goals and celebrating the little victories. Pushing through discomfort while making sure not to rush the recovery was a delicate balance.”
Tholakele credits her support system—family, teammates, coaches and medical staff—for helping her stay motivated throughout the rehabilitation process. Their encouragement kept her going through the frustrating days when progress felt minimal. Now, as she gears up to feature in the new season, the excitement in her voice is unmistakable. “It is always been a dream to play at such a high level with a talented group of players. The thought of being back in front of the supporters and contributing to the team’s success is what keeps me motivated. I have missed the competitiveness of the game. 2025 feels like a fresh start and I cannot wait to give my all on the pitch again.”
Beyond the physical aspects of recovery, Tholakele’s journey has also been one of mental growth.
“Rehabilitation taught me a lot about resilience and patience. I have always been someone who is driven to succeed and push through obstacles, but I learned that sometimes you need to slow down and trust the process. It is not just about physical strength but also mental strength. That is something I will carry with me moving forward.” Her goals for the new season are clear: to return to top form, make an impact in every game, and help Sundowns Ladies continue their dominance.
“My primary goal is to get back to my best form, both mentally and physically. I want to contribute to the team’s success and make an impact in every game I play. To regain my top form, I plan on continuing my training program, working with the coaches, and maintaining a strict fitness regimen. It’s all about taking things one step at a time, and I know the hard work will pay off.” As one of the most inspirational players in the league, Tholakele has a message for young athletes facing injuries or setbacks. “Don’t lose hope and don’t rush the process. Injuries can be incredibly frustrating, but remember that recovery is part of the journey. Stay focused on your goals and take each day as an opportunity to get better, even if it’s just a small step forward. Surround yourself with people who support and believe in you, and trust in your strength. Setbacks don’t define you; they can be the foundation for your comeback. Keep working hard, stay positive, and believe in yourself.”
