At the historic 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Mamelodi Sundowns was not just there to compete—they were there to connect. At the heart of this mission stood club legend Hlompho Kekana, whose leadership extended far beyond the pitch in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, during a landmark youth coaching clinic held in partnership with Roc Nation Sports International.

“This was not just about football. This was about telling our story—the Sundowns story—and introducing children to a philosophy rooted in Ubuntu, purpose, and pride.”

The coaching clinic, held as part of the Club’s global outreach strategy, brought together over 50 local children, many of whom had little exposure to global football. For Kekana, that made the experience all the more powerful. “When we asked them about football, they spoke about helmets and touchdowns,” he said with a smile. “But by the end of the day, they had discovered something new. Something universal.”

Throughout the session, Kekana and his fellow legends shared more than drills and tactics. They shared values. Warm-up games were followed by heartfelt conversations about life, culture, family and dreams. Kekana, who once walked a similar path as a young boy with a dream, understood the weight of those moments. “Children need to feel like they matter. That’s what we gave them. But they also gave us something back—stories, laughter, connection.”

One moment stood out: “When the kids took off their caps before speaking to us—it was a gesture of respect I’ll never forget. It reminded me that Ubuntu and respect are not exclusive to any one place. They live everywhere. We just have to nurture them.”

The clinic became more than an outreach—it became part of Sundowns’ evolving identity as a global Club with a human heartbeat. For many children, it was their first encounter with the South African side. For Sundowns, it was a new chapter in their journey to becoming a symbol of hope, not just in Africa but around the world.
“Football has the power to go beyond language, borders and differences,” Kekana said. “And as Mamelodi Sundowns, we will always use that power to inspire, unite and build bridges.”

The collaboration with Roc Nation Sports International, Kekana noted, was a deliberate and strategic step. “This partnership shows how committed we are to genuine human engagement. It is not just about football. It is about discovering shared values and planting seeds of unity and hope—in the Sundowns way. With intention. With joy. And always with Ubuntu.”
