Now a regular face on the Club’s Pitchside Podcast, Hlompho has seamlessly transitioned from commanding the midfield to captivating audiences with his insights and charisma. Hlompho, the most decorated captain in Premier Soccer League history with eight league titles to his name, reflected on his highlight of 2024.

“Frankly, it has to be winning the league yet again. We also won the league for a record-extending seventh consecutive time (14th overall). On top of that, seeing the Club represented in the FIFA Club World Cup draws highlights how much we have grown as a Club. It is not every day It is a proud moment for the Yellow Nation and South African football as a whole to see the Mamelodi Sundowns badge placed alongside world football heavyweights.”

When asked about what he looks forward to the most in 2025, Kekana shared his hopes with characteristic passion and optimism.

Building momentum is crucial—it sets the tone and gives the players the confidence they need to take on the world’s best. Also, I want to see the team winning the league yet again. Maintaining our legacy as the top team in South Africa is important, not just for the Club but for our supporters who live and breathe Ka bo Yellow.”

The former Sundowns captain shared his thoughts following the Club’s inclusion in Group F of the FIFA Club World Cup, where Masandawana were drawn alongside Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, Brazil’s Fluminense and South Korea’s Ulsan HD FC.
“It is a very exciting draw. As a team, we are always looking forward to testing ourselves, and these opponents will provide us with the much-needed challenge to see where we stand. Going up against these Clubs is a huge opportunity. We will be going there with confidence, knowing the hard work we have put in to reach this stage.”
Celebrating the Season: Festive Moments & New Year’s Aspirations Q: What are your plans for the festive season?
A: I am heading to my village (Zebediela) to reconnect with long-time friends and family. Now that I am no longer playing, I can indulge in all the desserts! We always kick off the celebrations with a good old braai, preparing ourselves for the new year ahead. And of course, music will fill the air—it’s an essential part of our festive vibe!
Q: How do you plan to step into the new year—alone or with family?
A: It is all about family for me. The new year feels incomplete without being surrounded by loved ones. We always gather to reflect on the year that has passed and set our goals for the future.

A: A huge thank you to everyone who has supported our content and the team throughout the year. Your dedication means the world to us.
