MATÍAS ESQUIVEL EXCITED TO JOIN MAMELODI SUNDOWNSMamelodi Sundowns have bolstered their squad by securing the services of the highly-rated Argentine midfielder Matías Esquivel from Club Atlético Lanús. The prolific midfielder had a stellar campaign with the Primera División team, which finished fourth during the 2023 season.In total, Esquivel netted seven goals and provided 12 assists for Lanus in 95 matches, primarily featuring as a central midfielder. The 24-year-old now becomes the fourth Argentine to don the Masandawana jersey, following in the footsteps of Vicente Principiano in 2005, Emiliano Tade in 2021 and Junior Mendieta in 2023.

The acquisition of Matías Esquivel is a significant boost to Sundowns’ ambitions for the 2023/24 season. Having already clinched victory in the inaugural edition of the African Football League, Bafana Ba Style is also aiming for success in the CAF Champions League and an unprecedented seventh successive league title. The Brazilians are also in contention for the Nedbank Cup. With Esquivel, Coach Rulani Mokwena has added another sensational South American attacking weapon to his arsenal, enhancing the team’s competitive edge.
