Pastor the DJ: Spinning Through a Year to Remember Author: Erica MathyeWhile most fans know him for his 27 unforgettable years on radio and nearly three decades of setting dancefloors alight, Sisanda Phiwe Nozewu — affectionately known as Pastor The DJ — carries another passion just as proudly: he is a true, lifelong member of the Yellow Nation. He has captivated South Africa with his voice and electrifying sets, but behind the decks and behind the mic, Nozewu has been one of the many voices cheering Mamelodi Sundowns. In this exclusive sit-down with the Mamelodi Sundowns Digital Magazine, the radio legend reflects on his football highs, festive season rhythm and what has him fired up for 2026. Mamelodi Sundowns Digital Magazine (MSDM): How would you summarise 2025? Sisanda Phiwe Nozewu (SPN): 2025 went by like lightning, but it left me with unforgettable moments. Watching Mamelodi Sundowns play at the FIFA Club World Cup is a memory I will cherish forever — it was my biggest highlight in years. MSDM: How do you usually spend your festive season? SPN: As a DJ, this is my busiest time of the year, as I travel from city to city entertaining the nation. The only downside? Spending Christmas Day traveling. I hate being away from home on that day. MSDM: Which childhood Christmas memory made the season special for you? SPN: My grandmother was the ultimate baker! She made a special loaf with money notes hidden inside. Whoever found one got to keep it. With all my cousins around, that loaf never lasted more than half a day! MSDM: What is your ideal Christmas gift? SPN: Quality time with my family and friends — just sitting together for lunch means everything. MSDM: What are your top 10 songs of the year? SPN: I do not have a specific top 10 — but anything by Jazzworx and Thukuthela owned my year. From Uzizwa Kanjani to Imali, from Abasekho to Abanondaba — they were all on repeat. MSDM: Which song will usher you into the New Year (2026)? SPN: iMali by Jazzworx & Thukuthela feat MaWhoo & GL_Ceejay MSDM: How are you welcoming the New Year? SPN: I will be behind the decks with a 2-hour New Year’s set from 23H00 to 01H00 — the perfect way to cross over. MSDM: How do you plan to recharge for 2026? SPN: With a well-deserved, one-week break — no work, no travel, just rest. MSDM: What are you looking forward to most in 2026? SPN: Besides Bafana winning AFCON, I want to see them shine at the FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA. That is the dream! With the year still going strong, Pastor the DJ keeps bringing energy to every crowd. As he wraps up a successful year, he is optimistic and ready for an even brighter 2026 — for himself and his beloved Mamelodi Sundowns.
