Football is called “the beautiful game” for many reasons. There is beauty in a bicycle kick; in a series of stepovers and a well-timed sliding tackle. But perhaps the most beautiful part of the game is the moment when a goal is scored.
Life can sometimes be unfair and unpredictable and no one can dictate where one will be born. More so, no one has absolute control over what manner of upbringing or neighbourhood one will experience at a tender age.
As Denis Onyango saved his fifth spot-kick in the intense penalty shootout at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, the coaches, players, supporters and everyone associated with the Mamelodi Sundowns family raised their arms aloft in relief and utter jubilation.
Over the years, Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club has been blessed with foreign players who have etched their names on the corridors of Chloorkop.
