As a Masandawana supporter, one of the most eagerly anticipated events annually is the unveiling of the Mamelodi Sundowns jersey ahead of the new season. Every year, the concepts and inspirations behind each distinctive design takes on a new dimension, and this year is no different.

Mamelodi Sundowns and PUMA have joined forces to collaborate, once again, on a unique design for the 2022/23 season as the team seeks to defend the domestic treble.

This season’s design honours Bafana Ba Style and their conquests within South Africa and across the continent. In African storytelling style, the shirt tells of previous Sundowns teams who battled against their rivals across the continent, and are part of a family of brave warriors dating back through history.

The warriors’ hunger for victory is never dimmed and the warning to opponents is clear: “Only the Sky is our Limit and Masandawana Will Rise Again!”

The Brazilians have officially revealed the new kit and will be wearing it for the first time in their opening game of the season in the clash against Cape Town City in the DSTV Premiership.

Sundowns goal poacher Peter Shalulile who recently inked a five-year contract extension with the DStv Premiership Champions was full of praise for the new merchandise.

“This looks great, I can’t wait to go out on the pitch wearing these kits. The designs of the jerseys are unique, as you can see distinctive African elements, which represent the fierceness and resilience of the team. We aim to be the best on the continent and I am excited to be donning these jerseys and scoring enough goals to help achieve that feat. I know that everyone associated with the Yellow Nation will be happy to see us dominating the pitch in these majestic jerseys,” said Peter Shalulile.

Banyana Ba Style captain Zanele Nhlapho was pleased with these new jerseys, “The design makes it extra suitable for both males and females. They are very comfortable and light thanks to the unique combination of fabric, pattern construction and applications. We cannot wait to defend our treble in these new and superb kits. Our supporters will enjoy wearing these replicas. I also noticed that these new kits can be worn with casual outfits. That is super cool,” Zanele said smiling.

THE NEW JERSEY ARRIVES IN TWO VERSIONS.

The replica version is made with recycled polyester, while the player’s jersey features the Ultraweave performance fabric, which is 44% lighter than PUMA’s existing football shirt design with a base shirt weighing only 72 grams.

With the jerseys launched, Mamelodi Sundowns will be gunning for glory during the 2022/23 season. While defending the treble is important, dominating the continent remains the top priority.
